Back to Work, Back to Purpose — Inspired by Tabitha Brown

This week, Tabitha Brown said something that stopped me in my tracks:

“Going back to work doesn’t mean you’ve failed.”

Whew. That one hit me hard.

Because if I’m being honest, when I had to clock back into a 9–5 after running my business for over 13 years, I felt embarrassed. I felt like people were watching me and whispering, “She fell off.” I felt like I had let my kids down. After all, I built LUSCIOUS from the ground up, and at one point, I was living my dream full-time. To go from that to walking back into a school building as an employee… it stung.

But here’s the truth: it wasn’t failure — it was rebuilding.

What This Season Looks Like

Right now, my days look like this: I work full-time at school, pouring into other people’s kids during the day. In the evenings, I pour into my own brand — working on LUSCIOUS hair, preparing for the Luxe Tote launch this fall, creating content, and building my blog. And all the while, I’m still a mom of three, managing homework, football games, and everyday life.

It’s not easy. Some nights I’m exhausted. But God has been reminding me that stability is not the enemy — it’s the foundation.

Why Going Back Was Necessary

Tabitha’s words reminded me that working doesn’t mean you gave up on your dream. Sometimes you need structure, stability, and consistent income to fuel the next chapter.

My job has given me space to:

• Fund the rebuild. Those paychecks help me keep pushing LUSCIOUS forward without stopping.

• Find new balance. My boys get to see me hustle in real time — teaching them that no matter what life throws at you, you keep moving.

• Rebuild with wisdom. I’m not moving recklessly anymore. Every step I take now is intentional.

Encouragement for You

If you’re in your own season of working and dreaming at the same time, don’t be ashamed. Don’t let the world tell you that clocking in means you’re less than. You are proof of what God can do in the rebuild.

You’re not starting over. You’re not failing. You’re laying bricks for your comeback story — and I’m right there with you. 🖤

So here’s my challenge to you:

Drop a comment and tell me — what are you rebuilding right now? Let’s encourage each other through this season.

Because we’re not just working. We’re rebuilding. And when the dust settles, the vision is still going to come to life.
